Bath Design
This is an accessible bathroom design for share usage for a family unit. I had learn a lot about different regulations for accessible bathroom design, most of the information comes from the NKBA guide line and the Interior Graphic Standard book. However there is a misunderstanding for the accessible require space for toilet which clearly shows on the plan that I should extend more on the side space to allow wheel chair access. Sadly it was enough space on my earlier plan sketches and changed after I had got the wrong information. If I just simply shift the class block back to the origin place there would be accessible as well as having a better proportion over the entire space.
With what I like the most of this project is the idea of applying glass block to meet the functional need which is stronger lighting reflection as well as aesthetic need such as blocking the sight of toilet from the angle of view that straight from the entrance of the bathroom. Also, the small perspective rendering really shows more detail and hidden space of the bathroom and help my client to understanding better for the technical drawings.

Child's Room Project (Twins' Room)
The idea of this project is to create a space that satisfy the needs of study, sleep and entertainment for the six years old twins. With the concept of being able to explore and experience life, I designed the space to conclude the elements of open and enclose, private as well as public.
My concept model shows the expression of the complication of life. With the idea of having the same color on the same path increases views' curiosity and motivation to follow the direction and look for the next step.
Designing a space for children is very important to make sure they will understand the design. For my presentation I decided to create a big space model with the scale of 1' = 1'' instead of making a presentation board with a lots of text and technical drawings such as plan and elevations. With two small 6 years old in scale model attached with the room model, it really brings a lot of interests while the children are listening to you. Also, with the plan and elevations on the outside of the room model, adults can also understand the detail of space in a better way.
While I was building the concept model I decided to use foam core to be the main material because it is easy to work with with fairly strong structural elements. Also with the idea of creating various pathway, it is very easy to transform that into the model by connecting small pieces of foam core to making different turns for the path. However it is quiet challenging to accomplish that in an aesthetic way, because there are various possibility for the shape of the model would become and I have to make sure it appeals interesting aspect from any angles.

During the process of making this room model, it really helps me to understand my own design more and considering details of problems. However, making such a big room model is time consuming, especially trying to match the color and pattern of the materials of flooring, wall paint and etc with the coloring on the model.
Room Model (In Progress) |
With the main wall in the center, it creates the depth and interest of the room space. Within the gaps in between two sides of the wall, you can partly see through the depth of the room but not completely viewing the as a whole. That transfered the idea of curiosity and self exploration from my concept model into the actual room space. However I did not have enough time and opportunities to find some transparent materials to put up as window at the open area of the north wall.
